Tomb of Zumurrud Khatun

مرقد زمرد خاتون

AbbasidsBaghdad

Popularly called the tomb of “Sitt Zubayda”, it is in fact the tomb of Zumurrud Khatun, mother of Caliph al-Nasir, built around 1202.

Its conical dome of brick muqarnas is among the finest surviving Abbasid architecture in Baghdad, beside the cemetery of Sheikh Ma’ruf al-Karkhi.
