A small mound near Ur that gave its name to the Ubaid period, the earliest phase of settlement in southern Mesopotamia, about 6500 to 3800 BC.
It also held a Sumerian temple of the goddess Ninhursag, which yielded a frieze of milking and dairy-making and a copper bull.
