Parthians & SasaniansBaghdad

Ctesiphon was the capital of the Parthians and then the Sasanians; its great vaulted hall, Taq Kasra, dates to around the 6th century AD.

Muslim armies entered the city in 637 AD, and the shrine of Salman al-Farsi, a companion of the Prophet, stands nearby.
